9 Common iPhone Problems And How To FIX Them

When your storage is full

Find an alternative photo storage solution and delete old i Cloud backups!

First, try:
Constantly running out of space?? You can check Settings > General > Storage > Manage Storage to see what’s the biggest culprit.

It’s most likely photos and video. Google Photos is a free app and website that will store unlimited photos (16MP or less, so perfect for phone pics) and in the app’s settings you can hit “Free Up Space” to remove original photos and vids from your device that are already backed up.

If that doesn’t work, then:
It may be your iCloud account that’s full. storing backups from old devices. Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage. Then tap the outdated backup, then Delete Backup!

Battery low

First, try:
If you’re running low RIGHT NOW, go to Settings > General > Battery and enable Low Power Mode. Next, go to Settings > Cellular and turn *off* Wi-Fi Assist.

If you’re really desperate, go to Settings > Accessibility > and turn Grayscale to ON. Finally, turn your phone face down so that it doesn’t light up when you receive notifications.

If that doesn’t work, then:
There are plenty of reasons why your battery might be dying quickly. Your email settings might be “fetching” (or looking for new messages) too frequently. Your screen might be too bright. You might have too many push notifications turned on. Head to Settings > Battery to see which apps are sucking up the most power.

When the screen is frozen

First, try:
Hold down the power (sleep/wake) button to see if your phone will power off.

If that doesn’t work, then:
Force-reset the device. Hold the home button and the power button at the same time for 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Rebooting your iPhone this way simply cuts the power, but beware that it may cause corruption, so only use it as a last resort.

When you dropped it in water

First, try:
Hold down the power (sleep/wake) button to see if your phone will power off.

If that doesn’t work, then:
Force-reset the device. Hold the home button and the power button at the same time for 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Rebooting your iPhone this way simply cuts the power, but beware that it may cause corruption, so only use it as a last resort

When your home button is broken

iPhone buttons typically stop working because of water damage, dirt, or drops, but luckily there’s an easy fix!

You’ll need to turn on an accessibility feature called AssistiveTouch. First, open Settings > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch and switch it to “on.” Now you’ll see a little black square. That’s your new virtual home button!

When your screen cracked

Don’t DIY unless you know what you’re doing!

Before you do ANYTHING, backup your phone’s data using iCloud or iTunes. I like backing up my phone using iTunes on my computer because I have limited iCloud storage.

First, try:
iCracked provides an on-demand general mobile device repair service that includes cracked screens, and it’s available worldwide. They’ll come to you and fix your iPhone in 30 minutes for about $180 for a 6s.

You can also bring in your iPhone to an Apple Store for repair, which costs between $130 and $150 depending on the model — but it won’t be ready for a few days and you have to make an appointment.

When you forgot your passcode

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do, aside from wiping your phone. Even the FBI had trouble getting past a locked iPhone, so tough luck breaking through the Great Wall of Forgotten Passcodes. After 6 attempts, your iPhone will be disabled and you’ll be locked out for a period of time.

If you really can’t remember your passcode, you’ll have to erase all of its contents and start over. There are two ways to reset: If you have Find My iPhone enabled, use iCloud. You can also connect it to a computer and, while it’s connected, press and hold the power and home button until you see the recovery screen pictured here. Finally, select Restore.

When you lost your Phone

If you don’t have Find My iPhone enabled, report the device to your carrier: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. If you believe it was stolen, suspend service and blacklist your device to protect it from unauthorized use.

If you *do* have Find My iPhone, go to iCloud.com, click All Devices, and tap the missing device. Lost Mode protects the device with a passcode if there is none and lets you enter a phone number if it’s found. Erase iPhone will completely wipe the device remotely, but use this as a last resort, because you’ll lose access to Find My iPhone.

Once you’ve located the device, do NOT try to retrieve the phone yourself if it was stolen. Contact the police.

When your Wi-Fi is not working

First, stand next to your router to eliminate any connection issues. Then, tap on the Wi-Fi network and select Forget This Network. Return to Settings > Wi-Fi, select the network again, and re-enter the password.

Still not working? Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Beware: This deletes all of your stored passwords and networks. If you see full Wi-Fi signal but can’t connect to the internet, reset your router and restart your phone.
